The BLUEWBC project has gathered the capacities of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in program countries and partner countries to improve the blue economies in Montenegro and Albania, through better education in innovation and entrepreneurship.

The project aims achieving the sustainable development of Blue economies in partner countries through improvements in their education in bachelor and master studies with the concepts of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Objectives and products of the project:

  • Creation of an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center with a focus on tourism development at the Faculty of Economics. The purpose of this center will be to enable students, mainly of the tourism profile, to apply in practice the knowledge gained from the theoretical side to be as close as possible to business needs. At the same time, this center will serve for research purposes and for academic staff;
  • Updating the current curricula that are mainly related to the blue economy and tourism, considering the methodology and experience of the institutions of the most developed countries of this program;
  • Increasing the capacities and skills of FE-UT staff (academic and administrative) in relation to the field of innovation and entrepreneurship in the blue economy;
  • Training of FE-UT staff and students from program country partners;
  • Creation of pilot courses in FE-UT for master's students or even professionals in the field.

Project activities will provide strategic thinking and flexibility of educational systems in Montenegrin and Albanian HEIs to adapt to new challenges and needs.

Short-term impact:

  • Creation of three Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centers at UT, the University of Vlora and the University of Montenegro. The creation of these centers will enable students, mainly of the tourism profile at UT, to apply in practice the knowledge gained from the theoretical side, bringing them closer to business needs. At the same time, this center will serve research purposes for the academic staff of the Faculty of Economics in the direction of applied research;
  • Updating current curricula with concepts related to innovation and entrepreneurship with a focus on tourism and the blue economy, using the methodology and experience of the institutions of the most developed countries of this program, as well as including business organizations in the curriculum development process;
  • Increasing the capacities and skills of the academic and administrative staff in relation to the program area.

Long-term impact:

  • Development and improvement of competences, skills and capacities of Higher Education Institutions in partner countries with a focus on the Blue Economy;
  • Creation of new jobs and training of existing staff with new knowledge directly related to market needs;
  • Developing new businesses or increasing the sustainability of existing businesses thanks to the piloting of business ideas in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centers;
  • Increasing the awareness of the society about the issues related to the Blue Economy;

Indicators of Project Development Objectives

  • 3 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centers created in the 3 HEIs of the project implementation countries.
  • Review of at least 20 curricula at the Bachelor level in the HEIs of the project implementation countries.
  • Revising at least 9 curricula at the Master's level and creating at least 4 new curricula in the HEIs of the project implementation countries.
  • Participation of at least 2 business organizations in the creation of curricula.
  • Training and certification of at least 12 academic staff in the three HEIs.
  • Raising awareness of at least 10 business organizations from each country about aspects related to the Blue Economy.
