Academician Rexhep Ismajli is honored by the University of Tirana with the title "Doctor Honoris Causa"

Academician Rexhep Ismajli was honored today by the University of Tirana with the title "Doctor Honoris Causa". In a special ceremony, organized in the "Liria" Building, the title of honor was presented to the distinguished Academician Rexhep Ismajli, with the motivation: "For outstanding contribution to the field of studies of today's Albanian, its history, relations with Balkan languages, language studies in general linguistics and philology".

This title was presented by the Rector of UT, Prof. Dr. Artan Hoxha, who said: "It is an honor that today we have here one of the most prominent figures of linguistics, but not only. 115 years ago a group of scholars, wise men, patriots and patriots defined for the first time the alphabet of the Albanian language, one of the oldest languages ​​in Europe. But the contribution of Gjergj Fishta, Ndre Mjeda, Mati Logoreci, Luigj Gurakuqi, Hilë Mosi, Petro Nini Luarasi, Sotir Peci and Bajo Topulli was followed by the work of other patriots and thinkers who dedicated their lives to study, enrichment and development on the pedestal it deserves as one of the richest languages ​​in the world. One of those people is among us today, Academician Rexhep Ismajli".

Academician Ismajli, in his welcoming speech, appreciated and thanked the University of Tirana for this title. Among other things, he excitedly expressed that the love and passion for the Albanian language, which was born in his hometown in Presheva, marks today with this title one of the most honorable chapters of my academic life.

Rexhep Ismajli is a polyhedral figure, as a researcher, creator and translator. He was born in Preševo ​​in 1947 and studied language and literature in Pristina in 1971. In the years 1971-1973 he specialized in linguistics at the Sorbonne, Paris. In 1972, he started working as an assistant, then a lecturer, professor for the subjects General Linguistics and History of the Albanian Language at the Albanian Language Department of the Faculty of Philosophy/Philology of the University of Pristina. He has taught in several European universities and until 2000 he was in Munich, giving lectures in the field of Albanology. He returns to Pristina and devotes himself to teaching at the University of Pristina. Member of several scientific academies, author of many studies on linguistics. Also, he has contributed to bringing many authors of literature from the countries of the region and Europe into the Albanian language.
