The future of higher education in Albania!

World Bank experts are working on drafting a strategy for the future of higher education in Albania. In this context, a meeting was organized at the Rectorate of the University of Tirana with the Group of Experts of the World Bank and UT leaders. This serves a fact-gathering phase, where experts seek to obtain more information on the work of universities, the possibility and ability to develop scientific research, the value of degrees in the labor market, etc.

The topic on which this meeting was focused is related to the three missions of higher education such as: Academic Formation; Scientific Research and Innovation; The impact of the University on the Albanian Society. During the meeting, the University of Tirana provided information on the study programs in the three study cycles, their connection with the labor market, challenges with branches where there are fewer students, academic infrastructure, the level of funding from the state budget and third sources. the relationship the university has with Alumni and how it tracks the employment of those who graduate. The policies and strategies of the University of Tirana for scientific research, its physical and digital infrastructure, funding from state grants and income generated by the university itself from third sources, internationalization and the impact that the university has on the social and economic development of the country and the city of Tirana.

The Group of Experts of the World Bank, in particular, was interested in knowing the problems faced by UT in the legal, institutional and financial directions.

The Rector of the University of Tirana Prof. participated in the meeting. Dr. Artan Hoxha and other directors, such as, as deputy rectors, deans, vice deans and directors. From the World Bank participated: Mr. Javier Botero Alvarez Expert on Higher Education Policy Issues and Mr. Nail Jena, Senior Expert for Education in the Europe and Central Asia Department at the Regional Office of the World Bank based in Vienna, and from the Ministry of Education and Sports: Geron Kamberi, External Advisor for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
