The Faculty of Economics was established in 1952, under the name of the Higher Institute of Economics. Since 1957, with the creation of the University of Tirana, it was included in that University under the name of the Faculty of Economics. At that time, the Faculty of Economics offered degrees in only two branches: the branch of Economics and the branch of Accounting.
During the following years, the Faculty of Economics expanded and in 1990 it offered degrees in six branches: Economist for Industry, Economist for Finance, Political Economy, Economist for Trade, Economist for Statistics and Merceology. Until the academic year 1990-1991, the teaching programs of the Faculty of Economics were built on the basis of the principles of centralized economy and were oriented towards the experience of eastern universities.
During the period 1991-2006, which coincides with the period of transformation towards the market economy, the Faculty of Economics has been radically reorganized and restructured in form and content. It is the oldest institution, which offers diplomas in the field of economics, business, marketing, tourism, etc.
The faculty aims to provide students with a basic system of formative knowledge in the field of management, marketing, finance-accounting, in the field of databases, programming, multimedia, etc., for the formation of specialists capable of working in the relevant fields in subjects of the private sector, the state sector, the non-profit sector and for the realization of advanced studies in these fields.
To achieve these objectives, the program envisages studies in areas such as management, marketing, finance, accounting, informatics and statistics, micro and macroeconomics, commercial legislation, statistics, econometrics, mathematics applied in economy, microeconomics and macroeconomics, etc.
Currently, the Faculty operates on the basis of new teaching programs, in accordance with the programs of Western schools, based on the Bologna Declaration and adapted to the concrete conditions of our country, offering study programs in all three cycles: Bachelor, Master and Doctorate. The Faculty of Economics is composed of 6 departments: Department of Finance, Department of Accounting, Department of Management, Department of Marketing, Department of Economics and Department of Statistics and Applied Informatics.
The Faculty has a partnership with a number of institutions for the performance of students' teaching practices or for their employment, such as the Supreme State Audit, the Bank of Albania, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Institute of Statistics, the Financial Supervision Agency, the Chambers of Trade, etc.
The Faculty has a Career Office which aims to support and encourage students and Alumni in developing their potential for a better approach to the labor market, thus increasing the number of employees in their field of study. This mission is implemented first by enriching the student experience, then by working to prepare students for the transition to the labor market, and then by enabling mediation with this market! This office organizes the annual Job Fair at the Faculty of Economics
The Faculty has its own Library with a considerable collection of books and a large study room.
