Federika Mogherini is honored by the University of Tirana with "Doctor Honoris Causa"

 

Former High Representative for Foreign Policy in the European Union, Rector of the College of Europe, Mrs. Federica Mogherini was honored today by the University of Tirana with the title "Doctor Honoris Causa". The title of honor was presented today to Mrs. Mogherini in a special ceremony organized in the "Liria" hall, with the motivation: "For the valuable contribution to the European integration process of Albania and the Western Balkans, in promoting European values, building and ensuring multilateral dialogue, as well as in supporting and strengthening the internationalization process of the University of Tirana and higher education of Albania in the European space".

This title was presented by the Rector of UT, Prof. Dr. Artan Hoxha, who appreciated the role of Mrs. Mogherini when she led EU diplomacy in the service of Albania and its European integration process, appreciated and called it an honor that UT gives her the title "Doctor Honoris Causa".

During his speech the Rector, Prof. Dr. Artan Hoxha stated that: "During her function as the High Representative of the EU for Foreign and Security Policy, she has been a great supporter of Albania, committing herself to the advancement of the integration process, and opening of membership negotiations. The period of her mandate, as Deputy. President of the European Commission, coincided with the time when Albania was fulfilling some of the most important reforms, where the most important was the reform in justice. Thanks to the support of the European Commission for this reform, Albania has continued the path of Europeanization of its institutions and in 2018, Albania received the positive recommendation for the opening of negotiations. The continued support of the European Commission and especially of Mrs. Mogherini, after several years of difficult efforts, made it possible to open accession negotiations in 2022.

Mrs. Mogherini, in her welcoming speech, appreciated and thanked the University of Tirana for this title, she appreciated the importance of the continuation of the integration process of Albania and expressed readiness for the continuation of the cooperation and internationalization of the University of Tirana.

Also, Mrs. Mogherini was present two days ago at the grand graduation ceremony of over 12 UT students, a ceremony that was organized in the premises of the "Air Albania" national stadium. In this ceremony, she made an appeal to newly graduated young Albanians to be an important part of Albania's modernization process to move it forward on the unstoppable path of integration into the European Union.
