He was a missionary in the world of medicine and science, to which he had dedicated his life.
Winner of the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1998, Ferid Murad lined up the red and black colors alongside Nobelists from other nations.
Ferid Murad was the son of an Albanian who had immigrated to the US. A in 1913 and lived his whole life being connected to his father's origins, to his Albanian roots.His indomitable will, rare talent and perseverance ranked the Albanian academician on the list of the most influential intellectuals in medical science, culminating in the awarding of the Nobel Prize.His life and career are a source of inspiration and motivation for everyone, but in particular for the large family of Albanian academics, for students of every generation in medicine, but not only.The University of Tirana, since 1999, has been fortunate to have this worldwide academic part of the Academic Golden Pleiade decorated with the title "Doctor Honoris Causa".As Rector of the University of Tirana, I express my pain for the loss of this great figure of world science and a great representative of the Albanian intellectual community in the United States of America
