Albanian physicists, part of the biggest experiment in the world, at CERN

The two largest Albanian universities, the University of Tirana and the Polytechnic of Tirana, are now officially 'COOPERATING INSTITUTES' in the CMS (Compact on Solenoid) experiment of CERN (European Center for Nuclear Research, Geneva, Switzerland). About 5 thousand scientific researchers from all over the world work in this experiment. Now the Albanian group, consisting of 7 physicists, will be part of this scientific organization. The agreement was signed on March 5, in Geneva, between the leaders of the CMS experiment, as well as the Albanian side, represented by the Rector of the University of Tirana, Prof. Dr. Artan Hoxha and the rector of the Polytechnic University, Prof. Dr. Andrea Maliqari.

The heads of the Albanian Development Fund, Mr. Martin Mata and Mr. Aleksandër Sarapuli, were also supporting the Albanian team of physicists in this scientific venture.

With this agreement, a group of Albanian physicists is now officially part of the biggest experiment on the planet, in the field of Physics. This group consists of Prof. As. Dr. Rudina Osmanaj, Prof. As. Dr. Klaudio Peqini and Prof. As. Dr. Olta Çakaj (University of Tirana - Faculty of Natural Sciences); by Prof. As. Dr. Altin Gjevori, Prof. As. Dr. Dafina Hyka and Dr. Enkelejd Çaça (Polytechnic University of Tirana) and Dr. Ilirjan Margjeka, as the contact person of the CMS experiment for Albania.

The participation of Albanian physicists in this experiment is considered very important.

It has scientific importance for our country, because our scientists have full rights to have access to real experimental data by publishing our scientific results in world-renowned scientific journals.

Participation in such an organization is crucial in building international connections of our Albanian colleagues with their colleagues from world-renowned universities such as Princeton Univesity, Harvard University, Oxford University, MIT, Cambridge University, ETH Zurich, etc., sharing ideas and publishing together in different fields of Physics, IT, artificial intelligence and also on different technologies and of industrial value.
