The Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics (IFBZ) was established in 1971, as a scientific research institution in the field of atomic and nuclear physics and aiming to apply nuclear methods in various fields of economy and social life.
Initially, the Institute was subordinate to the University of Tirana and then, with the establishment of the Academy of Sciences, it became part of the Academy's network of scientific institutions.
By decision of the Council of Ministers no. 563 dt. 22.08.2007, the Center of Applied Nuclear Physics was established, based on the former Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences, as a basic unit, research and development center at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, UT.
In 2013, after a great commitment of the Center's academic staff and in cooperation with serious American partners, the Center of Applied Nuclear Physics returns to the Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics as the main unit, at the University of Tirana. Specifically, on May 30, 2013, the Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics was opened as the main unit at the University of Tirana
The institute has three departments:
– Department of Radiation Protection and Monitoring Networks
– Department of Radiometry and Radiochemistry
– Department of Instrumental Analytical Methods
The Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics, in cooperation with institutions and manufacturing companies, conducts research-scientific activities through research and development projects. The basic task of IFBZ is to carry out scientific activities, mainly of an applied nature, and to transfer new methods and technologies of nuclear physics and chemistry in various fields.
IFBZ has 23 employees, of which: 17 academic staff (Professor 4, Associate Professor 2, Doctor of Science 3, Master of Science 8) and 6 non-teaching employees.
