International scientific conference, the Congress of Manastir on its 115th anniversary.

The Department of Linguistics and the Department of History organized the scientific conference "Monastery Congress" on its 115th anniversary. The conference was honored with the participation of Academician Rexhep Ismajli, recently awarded the title "Doctor Honoris Causa", Rector of the University of Tirana, Prof. Dr. Artan Hoxha and the dean of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Berton Sulejmani. 

The participants in this conference discussed in detail the importance of the Congress of Manastir and the role of the most prominent Albanian personalities of the time in the realization of this major event for our nation.

The Congress of Manastir was a national congress, which was held in Manastir from November 14 to November 22, 1908. The Congress of Manastir is rightly regarded as the most important national assembly in the political and cultural history of Albanians at the beginning of the century. XX.

Today, after 115 years, this Congress is known and will continue to be known as the Alphabet Congress, the Congress that made a turning point for Albanians and the Albanian language, the Congress from which the unique Albanian alphabet was formed. The Congress was held by the company "Bashkimi" at the house of Fehim Zavalani, where the headquarters of the company was also.

This congress was held to examine some important issues of the national movement, first of all, the issue of the alphabet of the Albanian language was presented with importance. 150 delegates were present at this congress, coming from all parts of Albania, as well as from the Albanian communities in Romania, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, America, etc. Among the distinguished figures of the Albanian cultural and political life, participants in the congress were: Gjergj Fishta, Mid'hat Frashëri, Sotir Peci, Ndre Mjeda, Shahin Kolonja, Bajo Topulli, Parashqevi Qiriazi, Fehim Zavalani.

The Congress of Manastir and its decisions constitute one of the most important events in the recent history of the Albanian people. For the first time after the assemblies, which were held during the period of the League of Prizren (1878-1881) and the League of Peja (1899-1900), representatives from all the provinces of Albania gathered in this Congress and important decisions were made for the issue of the alphabet and for political ones, which helped to raise the Albanian culture and education to a higher level, as well as for its further unification in the struggle for national liberation.
