Title: «Microorganisms associated with suspended particles: A new issue related to river water quality";
Reference: No. 907/1 Prot., dated 31.07.2023;
Duration: 24 months;
The purpose of the study aims to test the hypothesis that suspended solids represent an essential aquatic component when the origin and fate of microbiological pollution in freshwaters is to be assessed.
Project objectives are:
– To monitor the flow of suspended particles by direct quantitative determination of suspended particles in river waters in different hydrological regimes and adverse climatic conditions;
– To characterize the level of chemical and microbiological contamination associated with particles;
– To test the application of flow cytometry (FCM), as a new method to distinguish and quantify suspended particles, suspended microorganisms and those associated with particles;
– To create a set of chemical and microbiological indicators related to suspended particles as a critical parameter for water quality assessment.
