A great loss for UT and the science of mathematics!
Honored Professor Mina Naqo, one of the most prominent figures in Albanian mathematics and a personality in the field of higher education, passed away.
Prof. Dr. Mina Naqo was born on January 12, 1939, in the city of Vlora, where he completed his 8-year primary and secondary education. He then pursued higher studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Tirana, where he excelled as a student in the field of mathematics.
After graduation, he devoted himself to the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, where he served as a lecturer for decades. In addition to being an excellent researcher and lecturer, he was an inspiration to students aspiring to teach and study mathematics.
Prof. Naqo was the author and co-author of numerous university and school textbooks, which for years became the basis for the education of thousands of Albanian students. With his research work and scientific publications, he left a valuable mark on the development of mathematics and the raising of academic standards in the country.
But Professor Naqon will be remembered above all as a simple and dedicated man. He combined the best of both worlds: correctness in his work and profession, with human warmth towards his colleagues and students.
On behalf of the University of Tirana, I would like to express my condolences to the family of Professor Naqo, but also to his many colleagues at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and other faculties of the University of Tirana.
Prof. Dr. Artan Hoxha
Rector of the University of Tirana
