Now WHAT? Preparing and Empowering Youth Leaving in Care

Some of the activities developed during the first year with the cooperation of all actors are:

  • "Analysis of the needs of young people leaving care", (national level report). Work was also done on the comparative report on the data collected in all the countries that are part of the project (Albania, Greece, Romania and Portugal);
  • "Life Skills Curriculum", which aims to help young people living in care institutions how to build relationships and develop skills that will strengthen their ability to function well in the community;
  • The Life Skills Handbook aims to provide information on the practical help young people will receive around housing, education, training and employment, money-related issues, health and other life skills needed as they prepare for independence;
  • "Life Skills tools/guides", aim to equip young people with a series of resources that provide information on expense lists, steps to get a bank card, etc.;
  • The "Trainers' Guide" that will serve as a guide for trainers who will provide future Life Skills training.
  • The "Mentoring Component", which aims to develop a meaningful connection between young people leaving care institutions and experienced adults, with whom they will develop their individual "After Care" plans, covering essential issues, such as housing, education, personal needs, etc. The mentoring protocol is being worked on, and in the coming months, training will also be provided for mentors who will provide care for young people leaving care institutions.
