Title: Optimization of decentralized domestic wastewater treatment and sanitation via Constructed Wetlands, – DOMUS_CW
Reference: CCI 2014 TC16M4TN003
Duration: 21/06/2019- 31/05/2020
Programs: The transnational Cooperation Programme, Interreg VB "Balkan-Mediterranean 2014-2020"
The overall objective of the project is to build on common territorial assets and promote integrated territorial development and cooperation for a more competitive and sustainable Balkan Mediterranean area.
The DOMUS_CW project proposes the adoption of a simple cost-efficient and highly effective practice for domestic wastewater treatment.
Project objectives:
- Improving local capacity building in the Med Balkan countries in terms of sustainable infrastructure creation and involvement of local communities in the project.
- Introducing solutions for wastewater treatment and water/nutrient reuse based on the promotion of local technical skills.
- Strengthening the capacity of policy makers to promote policies and develop plans for improved wastewater treatment and resource reuse.
- To publish and use project results to address institutional challenges towards the development of more progressive water use/efficiency regulatory measures and policies.
Expected results: The main result of the project will be the creation of a general assessment instrument, a model platform through which the feasibility of applying CW technology in different countries can be assessed based on minimal initial data. This optimized model will be distributed freely as well as to any end recipient, such as local authorities or even private initiatives in the Balkan countries or any other country where the proposed technology is applicable at the community level to benefit.
