The University of Tirana is one of the first universities in Albania to implement the process of internationalization within its academic system. Internationalization means approaching strategic goals through partnerships and collaborations and is a dominant trend as a proactive response to the opportunities, challenges and risks that accompany globalization.

The fields of research have the common goal of developing education, culture, science and economy in the service of freedom and diversity of ideas, for the construction and consolidation of a democratic society and the rule of law, for the increase of well-being and human dignity, realized with legal and transparent activity. Bilateral and multilateral scientific cooperation projects make possible the exchange of experiences and the creation of contacts for the joint realization of various research aspects between Albanian researchers and those of other countries.

The University of Tirana continues to review and promote the signing of bilateral and multilateral memorandums and agreements of understanding and cooperation in the field of scientific research and innovation with prestigious universities with the aim of expanding the portfolio of high-quality collaborative programs with strategic partners.

The most important achievements of the projects carried out by the University of Tirana in the dimension of international cooperation have been achieved mainly in the improvement of curricula, the increase of opportunities for cooperation for knowledge and scientific achievements between universities, the increase of opportunities for the qualification of academic staff, the improvement of infrastructure through the acquisition of specific equipment used in the development of science, the expansion of cooperation networks through cultural exchanges and experiences between participants, the improvement of research techniques in accordance with the best EU standards and their comparison with the countries participating in the projects different.

Other achievements have contributed to encouraging researchers to collaborate across borders and specific sectors as well as to the development and implementation of innovative scientific procedures that lead to high quality education and research work, institutional governance, management and functional modernization and social innovation.
