The Psychologist Service is a trusted, confidential and supportive space where students and staff can receive the professional help needed to cope with emotional, psychological and social challenges during university life.

1. The Mission of the Psychology Service at the University of Tirana

The mission of the psychology service at UT is to provide professional support to help students, academic and administrative staff cope with psychological, emotional and social challenges that may affect their academic and personal lives. This service aims to:

  • Strengthen the mental well-being of students throughout the study cycle.
  • Promote the personal, emotional and social development of the individual.
  • Ensure a healthy psychological environment for the entire university community.
  • Help prevent and treat psychological difficulties that may affect academic performance and personal life.

The service is based on professional, ethical principles and complete confidentiality.

2. The Role of the Psychologist at UT

The psychologist has a multidimensional role that includes:

  • Emotional and psychological support: for students who encounter difficulties of an emotional, social or academic nature.
  • Improving academic performance: through assistance in managing stress, exam anxiety, lack of motivation, and difficulties in concentration.
  • Personal development: through interventions that help students increase self-esteem, communication skills, and make more informed decisions.
  • Prevention and timely intervention: for the early identification and management of psychological concerns such as depression, anxiety, risky behaviors, self-harm or suicidal thoughts.
  • Involvement in mental health education: through awareness campaigns, seminars and various activities aimed at promoting psychological well-being on campus.
  • Mediation in interpersonal conflicts: between students, or between students and academic staff.

3. Main Functions of the Psychological Service

a) Individual Counseling

  • It is developed through one-on-one sessions with the psychologist.
  • It addresses issues such as: anxiety, depression, adaptation difficulties, self-confidence, exam stress, family problems or interpersonal relationships.

b) Group Counseling

  • Sessions are organized for students who share common issues (such as stress management, building self-esteem, effective communication training, etc.)
  • It eases feelings of isolation and encourages mutual support.

c) Crisis response

  • Rapid response for students who are in a difficult emotional state, such as crisis, personal loss, trauma or unexpected stressful events.
  • Coordination with other structures for the management of complex situations.

d) Psychological Assessment

  • To better understand the student's needs and suggest appropriate intervention.
  • Standardized tools are used to assess anxiety, depression, personality, or cognitive functioning.

e) Campaign and Psycho-Social Education

  • Seminars, trainings, information days on mental health.
  • Aimed at the entire university community to reduce stigma and encourage seeking professional help.

f) Interdisciplinary cooperation

  • The psychologist collaborates with teachers, administration, doctors, social workers, and family members to provide the most comprehensive support possible for students.
