Title: Skadar Lake without chemical pollution - SOLUTION

Reference: 00-257

Duration: 01.01.2021- 23.03.2023

Programs: IPA II Cross-Border Cooperation Program Montenegro-Albania 2014-2020

The project aims to promote the protection of the environmental management system in the cross-border area of Lake Shkodra; to support the joint and coordinated research of hazardous chemical substances in the area as well as to support the identification of hot spots, pollutants and to provide both countries with the most important data and statistics in this regard.

The common territorial challenges to be addressed by the project arise from the need to protect the lake and its environmental areas threatened by environmental pressures, derived mainly from human activities. International cooperation is needed to tackle water pollution and risk identification in a coordinated and homogeneous manner under the EU framework, to produce a wider and more concrete impact than isolated initiatives.

Thus, the aim of the project is to influence the environmental risk assessment of chemical pollution in Lake Shkodra and to determine the hotspots of pollution. Through the activities of the project, the pollutants will be analyzed where based on the samples and test results, certain measurements will be submitted for risk prevention. In addition, the planned approach will lead to the introduction of innovative ways to present the results of environmental quality monitoring in the country.
