The University of Tirana informs students of the second and third cycles of studies, as well as researchers at the beginning of their academic careers, about the opening of the call for applications for Charles Taylor Annual Summer Institute on Democratic Agendas 2026, which will take place in Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory (IFDT), University of Belgrade, in the period June 29 – July 4, 2026.
The central theme of this edition is: "Institutions in Motion: Democracy Between Social Struggle and the State", with a focus on the potential of democratic institutions to respond to the political challenges of the 21st century. The program will address issues related to the transformation of social demands into sustainable institutions, democratic legitimacy, resilience, social justice, public polarization, rights regimes, and restoring trust in institutions.
The summer institute is organized by Center for Transcultural Studies, Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade, and Center for Global Culture and Communication, Northwestern University, with the support of several international academic institutions and foundations.
The program aims to accept at least 25 advanced Master's and PhD students from different countries around the world and offers significant financial support for participation.
