The University of Tirana honors Academician. Prof. Dr. Sabri Hamiti with the title “Doctor Honoris Causa”
The University of Tirana organized a solemn ceremony where it awarded Academician. Prof. Dr. Sabri Hamiti the high title "Doctor Honoris Causa", in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to the field of Albanian literature, Albanological studies and national culture.
In his opening speech, the Rector of the University of Tirana, Prof. Dr. Artan Hoxha, stated that this is “a special honor for the University of Tirana”, describing Professor Hamiti as “a prominent figure of contemporary Albanian culture, a writer, poet, playwright and researcher who has influenced the development of literary thought and the affirmation of Albanian cultural identity”.
Rector Hoxha emphasized that Professor Hamiti "is the living bridge that connects tradition with modernity, Pristina with Tirana and the entire Albanian space with the world of universal knowledge."
The Rector further added that this assessment "is a symbol of the academic unity between our two university centers, Tirana and Pristina, which share the same ideals for building a common Albanian academic space open to the world."
In his thank-you speech, Academician. Prof. Dr. Sabri Hamiti expressed his gratitude for this honor, describing the University of Tirana as "the dome of Albanological studies and the institution that inherits the academic knowledge of Albanian creators."
He brought to attention fundamental figures of Albanian culture such as Sami and Mit'hat Frashëri, Eqrem Çabej, Lasgush Poradeci and Ernest Koliqi, whom he called cornerstones of Albanian cultural tradition and academic knowledge.
Professor Hamiti also spoke about the long-standing cooperation between the University of Pristina and the University of Tirana, emphasizing that "in recent decades, a new generation of researchers and professors has been created in Tirana, with great success in their work."
