Rectors and dignitaries from many European and North American universities participated in this conference.

In this context, on 17.10.2019, a ceremony was organized at McMaster University, during which the Rector of the University of Tirana, Prof. Dr. Mynyr Koni, signed the document MagnaCharta Universitatum.

Now, the University of Tirana is officially a member of the largest university community "Magna Charta Observatory".

The ceremony opened with the greeting of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in Canada, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, and continued with speeches by the President of McMaster University, David Farrar and the Rector of the University of Bologna, Francesco Ubertini.

The basic principles of this document foresee that the university is an autonomous institution, in the heart of societies organized differently, due to its geographical extent and cultural heritage. According to this document, among others, it is emphasized that the university prepares, develops, evaluates and transmits culture through research and teaching and that, in order to meet the needs of the society around it, research and teaching must be morally, legally and intellectually independent. from political authority and economic power.

During this ceremony, the Rector of the University of Tirana, Prof. Dr. Mynyr Koni expressed his satisfaction that now the University of Tirana is joining the "Magna Charta Observatory" so that the basic university principles and academic freedom are strengthened as much as possible in UT.

The rector of the University of Tirana had a series of meetings with other counterparts from European and North American universities, where the possibilities of cooperation and the exchange of experiences were widely discussed, which will serve to successfully face the challenges big that the University of Tirana has today.
