ABSTRAKT

Qëllimi: Ky studim shqyrton ndikimin problematik të mediave sociale në shëndetin mendor të adoleshentëve në Shqipëri, duke u fokusuar te faktorët kulturorë dhe kontekstualë që shpesh anashkalohen në literaturën ndërkombëtare. Hulumtimi synon të analizojë marrëdhënien mes përdorimit të mediave sociale dhe simptomave të depresionit e ankthit social, duke eksploruar rolin ndërmjetësues të imazhit trupor dhe vetëvlerësimit.

Metodologjia: Duke përdorur një dizajn ndërsektorial, deskriptiv-korrelacional, ky studim shqyrton marrëdhëniet dhe korrelacionet midis variablave të ndryshme në një moment të caktuar kohor. Në studim morën pjesë 315 adoleshentë shqiptarë (13-19 vjeç), ku u përdor një metodologji ndërsektoriale dhe deskriptive-korrelacionale. Gjetjet treguan një përdorim të moderuar të mediave sociale, me TikTok, YouTube dhe WhatsApp si platformat më të njohura. Nivelet e depresionit dhe ankthit në kampion ishin relativisht të ulëta.

Rezultatet: Gjetjet kryesore raportojnë një lidhje të fortë pozitive midis mbështetjes sociale dhe reziliencës psikologjike (r = .710), si dhe një lidhje negative mes imazhit trupor dhe përdorimit të mediave sociale (r = -.446). Nuk u gjet, ndërkohë, një lidhje me rëndësi mes kohës së kaluar në mediat sociale dhe depresionit (r = .007), një rezultat që bie ndesh me shumë studime ndërkombëtare.

Përfundime: Studimi konkludon se konteksti kulturor është vendimtar. Mbështetja sociale shfaqet si një faktor i fuqishëm mbrojtës, ndërsa imazhi trupor vepron si një ndërmjetësues kyç, ku ndikimi i mediave sociale në depresion kalon përmes perceptimit të pamjes. Bazuar në këto gjetje, propozohet zhvillimi i një indeksi për të matur cilësinë e përdorimit të mediave sociale (SMQI). Studimi sfidon gjetjet ekzistuese dhe thekson nevojën për politika që integrojnë diversitetin kulturor. Ai kontribuon në një kuptim më të plotë të marrëdhënies midis përdorimit të mediave sociale dhe shëndetit mendor të adoleshentëve.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study investigates the problematic use of social media and its impact on adolescents’ mental health in Albania, focusing on cultural and contextual factors often overlooked in international literature. The research aims to analyze the relationship between social media use and symptoms of depression and social anxiety, exploring the mediating roles of body image and self-esteem.

Methodology: A cross-sectional, descriptive – correlational design was employed to examine the relationships among key variables at a single point in time. The study involved 315 Albanian adolescents (aged 13-19) using a cross-sectional, descriptive – correlational design. Findings revealed moderate levels of social media use, with TikTok, YouTube, and WhatsApp being the most popular platforms. The sample exhibited relatively low levels of depressive and anxiety symptoms.

Results: Key results highlighted a strong positive correlation between social support and resilience (r = .710) and a strong negative correlation between body image and social media use (r = -.446). Unexpectedly, a weak and non-significant correlation was found between time spent on social media and depression (r = .007), a finding that contradicts much of the international literature.

Conclusions: The study concludes that cultural context is crucial. Social support emerges as a powerful protective factor, while body image acts as a key mediator, with social media’s influence on depression being channeled through its effects on body perception. Based on these findings, a new instrument, the Social Media Quality Index (SMQI), is proposed to measure the quality of social media use. This research challenges existing findings and underscores the need for policies that integrate cultural diversity. This study advances understanding of the relationship between social media use and adolescent mental health.
