The Rector of the University of Tirana, Prof Dr Artan Hoxha, participated in the round table with the subject “The Future of Vjosa, Dams vs. National Park”. This meeting included national and international scientists and high-profile policy makers.

During his speech, the Rector highlighted the important role higher education institutions must play in environmental issues, being the institutions where future politicians, researchers, engineers and planners are educated, who decide on the direction of human development. The universities, as research institutions, must lead in promoting environmental equilibrium, identifying problems and suggesting solutions in order for society to be guided towards the right direction and achieve sustainable development.

Prof Dr Artan Hoxha highlighted that the University of Tirana is committed to contribute through concrete studies as regards the approximation of our legislation with the EU acquis, as water administration in and of itself is one of the most widely regulated areas.

The University of Tirana supports debates with scientific values that are important in the country’s development in the sustainable use of natural resources and their protection.
