The project aims to promote the protection of the environmental protection system in the cross-border area of the Lake of Shkodra; to support the joint and coordinated research of dangerous chemical substances in the area and support the identification of hotspots, contaminants and provide the two countries important data and statistics on these regards.
The common territorial challenges which will be handled by the project rising from the necessity to protect and preserve the lake and the environmental areas threatened by human activity induced environmental pressures. Transnational collaboration is necessary to coordinately and homogenously face water pollution and identify risks according to EU frameworks to generate more concrete and higher impact compared to isolate initiatives. Thus the aim of the project is to make an impact in the environmental risk assessment of the chemical pollution of the lake of Shkodra and determine the pollution hotspots. During the activities of the projects, contaminators will be tested, and based on the samples and testing results the appropriate measures for risk prevention will be submitted. Besides this, the planned approach will lead to the introduction of innovative ways to introduce the results of the monitoring of the environmental quality in the country.
