The University of Tirana and “Mother Teresa” University in Skopje will collaborate closely in the academic and scientific research field. On March 5, 2018, the University of Tirana Rector, Prof. Dr. Mynyr Koni, accompanied by the Faculty of Natural Sciences’ Dean, Prof. Dr. Spiro Drushku and UoT Academic Senate member Prof. Dr. Edmond Dragoti, visited the “Mother Teresa” University in Skopje, a new university in the neighboring country, where the teaching and academic process is carried out entirely in Albanian.
During the visit, the UoT Rector, Prof. Dr. Mynyr Koni and “Mother Teresa” University’s in Skopje Rector, Prof. Dr. Azis Pollozhani signed the cooperation agreement that will bring the staff and students of both universities closer together. The agreement was signed on account of the celebrations for the 131st anniversary of the opening of the first Mësonjtore in Albanian.
During the meeting with his counterpart and the academic staff at “Mother Teresa” University, the UoT Rector, Prof. Dr. Mynyr Koni acknowledged the work for the establishment of the university, which bears the name of the renowned Albanian saint Mother Teresa, and pledged the complete and unconditional support of the University of Tirana to aid the university in its further development. The cooperation agreement enables the exchange of academic staff and experience, participation in international projects, etc.
On his behalf, the Rector of “Mother Teresa” University in Skopje, Prof. Dr. Azis Pollozhani applauded the concluded agreement and highlighted the role of the University of Tirana across the Albanian space. He requested the strengthening of this significant cooperation. Furthermore, during a ceremony held in the premises of the “Mother Teresa” University in Skopje on the occasion of the opening of the first Albanian school, the University of Tirana Rector, Prof. Dr. Mynyr Koni was awarded a “Gratitude Medal” by the MTU Rector Prof. Dr. Azis Pollozhani. This ceremony was also attended by the North Macedonian Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Mr. Arbër Ademi, who recognized the contribution of the UoT Rector toward higher education in the Albanian language. In his speech during the ceremony, the UoT Rector acknowledged the role of Albanian-speaking universities across the Albanian space. Prof. Dr. Mynyr Koni stated that the University of Tirana aims to support the universities further. In this regard, the University of Tirana Rector announced that the UoT is planning to hold a roundtable in Tirana with all Albanian-speaking universities, in order to enable a close collaboration in terms of improvement, development, education, and advancement of the Albanian nation.
