Abstract
This study presents a taxonomic and ecological assessment of the Orthoptera fauna collected in the Vlorë region of Albania over three years (2022-2025). A total of 52 Orthoptera species belonging to 39 genera and 6 families were recorded, of which 13 were identified to subspecies level. Two species (Ch. dichrous, M. e. ebneri) and one genus (Modestana) are reported for the first time from the Vlorë region, raising the regional species total from 98 to 100 (a 2% increase). The families Acrididae and Tettigoniidae dominate the Orthoptera fauna with 45 species (86.53% of the total). The Sevaster sub-zone shows the highest species diversity with 23 species (44.2%). Calliptamus italicus Linnaeus, 1758 exhibits the highest constancy (K = 66.67%), recorded in 18 of 27 sampling stations across all subzone types. The Orthoptera community displays a pyramid structure, with rare species forming the base and a single highly constant species at the apex. The mountainous–hilly subzones support the highest species richness with 43 species (82.6%). Coastal and lowland subzones share the greatest faunistic similarity (Sørensen index Cs = 47.37%), with 9 common species representing predominantly thermophilous, wide-ranging Mediterranean elements. Eight species were recorded across all subzone types, indicating broad ecological tolerance. The Mediterranean chorotype dominates the fauna with 22 species (43.14%), confirming the Mediterranean bioclimatic affinity of the Vlorë region. Two species (P. llofizii, E. p. plorans) or 3.9% are assessed as threatened (EN+VU), and 43 species or 84.3% arw assessed as least concern (LC).
